Read of the Town: Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix

Quirk Books has done it AGAIN! I'm a little biased because I I'm a HUGE fan of anything Quirk Books related. I don't own everything they've published but my list is growing. I'm in the middle of their Last Policeman Series, I'm caught up on the Miss Peregrine series, to mention but a few. I own so many more of their books but just this morning I got a knock on my door and was handed a package from the postman. A package I literally was thinking got lost in the mail. Sadness was setting in when the knock came on the door. Then I opened the package and found THIS in my hands! You tell me you wouldn't be excited!

Seeing the cover doesn't do this book justice but believe me when I tell you, the sooner you can get your hands on this book, when it comes out, the happier you will be! I haven't been able to put it down since I got it at 10:30 this morning! It's so intricately done and carefully put together, from the names of the furniture to the order form at the beginning. Of course I don't have to tell you what it's mimicking! Or do I? Well, all I will say, if I had to choose between an IKEA catalog and this one, I'd choose this one every time! It's got the same look and feel of a catalog except it's got a story to go along with those classic pieces of furniture we all have hopes of including in our own places of living.

At a length of just 243 pages I should have a review of this book coming soon. But you can get your hands on this book on September 23rd so be sure to either pre-order it or contact your local bookstore to make sure you can get a copy the second it arrives! From the cover and the title I would guess it's meant to be a scary story? I've taken a quick peek at the synopsis and share it with you as we delve into this novel together! I can't remember the last time, or any time for that matter, I've read a book that revolved around a Haunted House? Or should I say a Haunted Department Store filled with furniture you'd find inside a house? Either way, after reading this, I think I might feel more comfortable doing my IKEA shopping from the comfort and safety of a catalog!

Synopsis:
Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring wardrobes, shattered Brooka glassware, and vandalized Liripip sofa beds—clearly, someone or something is up to no good. To unravel the mystery, five young employees volunteer for a long dusk-till-dawn shift—and they encounter horrors that defy imagination. Along the way, author Grady Hendrix infuses sly social commentary on the nature of work in the new twenty-first century economy.
A traditional haunted house story in a contemporary setting (and full of current fears), Horrorstör comes conveniently packaged in the form of a retail catalog, complete with illustrations of ready-to-assemble furniture and other, more sinister accessories. We promise you’ve never seen anything quite like it!
